Make animated profile picture on Gmail and Line

On Gmail, we can use GIF to animate our profile picure. I think it’s kinda fun. I found this post really helpful https://medium.com/@brett.stone/how-to-set-a-gif-as-your-profile-picture-on-gmail-g-suite-email-127664d532f4.

So I start by creating still images (472 x 472 pixels) in multiple layers (I’m using Pixelmator). Then I export them to separate PNG files.

For creating GIF, I used giphy.com to create GIF picture from multiple still PNG pictures. I set the duration of each image to 1 second. Once finished, I downloaded the GIF and changed the Gmail profile picture to newly created GIF picture.

It’s quite easy to change the profile picture in Gmail and it starts animation immediately.

Next, I want to use this animated profile picture on my Line app also. But I need to convert the GIF to MP4. So I used this online tool to convert it https://ezgif.com/gif-to-mp4.

I download the MP4 ready to be used in my Line app. But I have to change the video profile picture on my iPhone. Just go to Setting and click on the camera icon and select prepared video file. Done! it’s quite easy right 😄. Now I can use GIF with my profile photo on Medium.com also ☺️.
